Here's a clip from a French TV news show with clips of the remarkable band Magma, then and now. Magma, if you've never heard of them, were the creation of drummer/visionary Christian Vander, who is the only original member left in the group. Magma is a concept group, based around Vander's disturbing certainty that human beings were in the process of destroying themselves and their planet. Vander imagined a future in which a group of people seeking to live a more spiritual life, in harmony with nature rather than against it, leave the decrepit Earth to form a better society on another planet (Kobaia). The music is supposedly the music of that future society, in which their stories of escape, encounters and experiences with the materialistic society of Earth are described. And actually, this is only part of the story (Kobaia, 1001 Centigrades and the Theusz Hamtaahk ("Age of Hatred") Trilogy. In fact, Magma's music encompasses Vander's prophetic visions that form a continuity from ancient Egypt until a time far in the future that is alien to us. Far out, huh?

  • Stellar talks about the "electric equipment used for all the works of magma to accomodate today's young audience.

Christian says: it's the music that makes the demands so we have to be there for the music, it's the music that gives us this energy, this life, this will. In life, in death and after...

    Hope this helps...

  • It's funny, in France we're the only free country in where you can expriment a dictature tone on the TV news^^

Magma on TV is extremely rare, while Johnny Bullshit Hallyday or other useless French singers (that are completely unknown out of France, which is the very proof of the persistant ignorance of our people about music...) are constantly represented.

I wish someday Christian Vander kicks Johnny Halleday's plastic ass !

  • @paragoge Tu as fais l'école du rire, non ?

  • "MAGMA The Greatest Group/Band/Ensemble of Our Time"

    True

Eternellement nul

  • En gros, music is making us not us making music , c'est la musique qui nous fait , pas nous qui faisons de la musique...à méditer!

  • Great vintage footage and some recent concerts and interviews too. Cool. I need a translator though.

And hey, is that a Magma medallion on the announcer's chest?????
