this is hilarious! I've been installing glass block for 12 years. DO NOT PAY ATTENTION TO THIS VIDEO. 1 good choice in Glass Block it doesn't get much better the Pittsburgh Corning. 2 do not use permanent shims. 3 grout bags are not only cleaner but faster and guarantee a better fill in the bevels of the block.
As a father with 3 kids - it's nice to see you working with your son. Using a prefab basement window panel is a good idea (and the addition of the air vent will provide air to the basement to keep this space healthier).
From a technical standpoint you may want to consider taping the sides and sill of the opening to have a cleaner grout finished product at the end.
Thank you for sharing your do-it-yourself project... the best part of this video is that you are sharing with your son and passing along the problem solving practices that so many kids today lack. I've read the criticisms here regarding the skill level... it's not about a professional installation, it's a teachable moment between father and son. I wish you well...

I heard your looking for a new installer. If you hire these guys you'll be waiting 10 days for the check!
