A few weeks ago I tried to make a Lego Orrery, and failed. I had trouble transferring two rotations along one shaft. I thought the solution was either a non-spined gear (I had no such part), or maybe it could be done with a differential.
I finally worked it out with the differential, by fixing the differential to the upper assembly by blocking the rotation of the gear.
Caleb, my 4 year old son is doing the narration.
The sizes, rotation ratios, and maybe even rotation directions are/could be wrong. No thought went into any of that, it was just a proof of concept. It's jerky in this video because one of the gears is jumping in and out of the next gear. Next time we have "special lego playtime", I'll build a better one.
