A lot of these things are coming out due to society developing a greater acceptance for people's individuality and a better understanding of who each of us are. Gender identity disorder is hardly the fault of athiests. And drug legalization doesn't seem to be linked to religion in my book. Gay pride parades?

How is homosexuality a political or religious issue? Isn't it about who one is and what one likes? What if it were the other way around?
