We found several bumble bee scarab beetles (family Glaphyridae, genus Lichnanthe) on the lower Mad River in Humboldt County, California on August 14, 2010. They looked like bumble bees when in flight too. The comparison bumble bee (Bombus) was in the dunes about a mile away. This was shot with a Nikon D90 with the 70-300mm VR lens.
