French rower tries againGirard, a 28-year-old mechanical engineer from France, delayed his planned departure yesterday to start through a window of better weather.
Girard and his boat, the Caliste, were towed out Town Cove and through three-foot waves at Nauset Inlet by harbormaster Dawson Farber Jr.
Girard tried twice in 2007 to make the trans-Atlantic row but was turned back by leaks and a broken rudder. This time he is more confident due to his training and changes in his boat and equipment, he told the Times last week.
