I'm not 100% sure, but I've read it a few times while doing research for papers during college. I'm still trying to find out the truth of it.

Do be sure you know what you are shooting at. Men walking upright, have been mistaken for bears walking on all four in central NL.

how does a hunter determine teh quality of the emat when hunting? Age? Gender? What are the criteria?

A major determinent of the quality of meat, is how long an the moose is run before it is killed. If you make it run for fifteen minutes then shoot it, expect the meat to be tough. The very best meat, calf or adult moose, is one that drops as soon as it is shot.

Those two moose introduced to Howley in 1904 did no survive, or s they say. Later there were two bulls and two cows dropped off in Gander Bay and they then took off from there.

If a moose is large, it is considered an adult and the older it is, the more tough will be the meat to eat. Generarlly, a smaller or younger animal provides a more tender steak. I am sure there are more factors than that, but I am not a moose hunter so I can say say no more.
