... this is the perfect version... I mean Shirley ist great too... but Billy's voice was and will be something 'extraterrestial' forever... absolutely haunting!

Beautiful Billy.

doesnt sound right probably why they had someone else sing it.

awesome luv it. you the fox

IMHO this is the best version of a great piece of music. it is less polished compared with the Yello/Sh.Bassey-Version, has more interesting patina.
Anyway - Billy was a very great singer

RIP Billy

It doesn't distract from the original because (some would say) this IS the original. This is Boris' and Billy's song, lent to Ms Bassey, and I wish some people would remember that.

@sgtrayelwood
But they wrote it specially for Shirley, with a powerful voice like hers in mind, didn't they?

Oh, sure. But then Billy trumped Shirl's version. In my personal opinion. ;-)

@sgtrayelwood The word is "detract" not "distract"! Were you just too polite to point that out to sugarshula64 and thought you'd go along with it?

@MisAnnThorpe
Could be "detract" or "distract" depending which way you view it! I probably subconsciously quoted sugarshula, but really, if we're going to quibble about vocabulary, grammar and the like, Billy himself mixed up "threw" and "through" in 18CLA, and frequently confused the simple past tense with the past participle. Do I care? Nah! :-P
