Do I just keep doing my thing (to where ever I am) and not think about it? Because not thinking about it is avoiding it. And then you say responding it to in a way of deep belly-breathing and embracing the fear, but how do I do that and keep on doing what ever I was doing.

Thankyou! Just listening to this reduced the, pretty much constant, chest and abdomen pain I suffer from as a result of panic disorder.
My first attack was just 11 days ago, and I've been in constant discomfort ever since. Funnily enough, I don't really feel a lot of "anxiety." It's more like physical discomfort, but I have had a couple of severe attacks that sent me to hospital which obviously brought a lot of anxiety.

I've been practicing this ever since i read Claire's first book when i was a kid. Problem is, i feel the panic the second i get into a store or around a group of people and even if i try to float through it, it just remains...that awful feeling. While i realize it's not dangerous, that's like saying. "A guy has a gun to your head but he's not going to kill you" Well, that's not dangerous then, but it's horribly uncomfortable and who would put themselves in that situation?

Thanks for your insights. I have to say I'm often tricked as the panic attacks I have are usually begin with an irregular heart beat. A skip here a lurch there, and then as anyone would sheer terror. was checked out by MD but of course that wasn't happening so no solution. Problem I have now is when I get a shot of adrenalin my heart putters, and makes it terrible. Thanks again.

25 yrs and counting. Thanks Dave, I am off to visit the website now. I must commend you on your approach. I have read Claire's books and found them to be useful, but lacking in what you describe as the freeze moment. I respond with the first... discomfort is danger. I have tried everything to date. Anyway, thank you.

My favourite point on this is that Dave is the one of the only people on youtube who doesn't hard sell. Strangely, his is the only book I've bought! It's very useful too. The techniques you need to reduce panic can be demotivating as they take so long to master, but do work eventually...kind of like going to the gym and hoping you can lift huge weights immediately, you need to train until it's an automatic response.
Great information, Dr. Cabonell. You speak of this subject so well and it makes so much sense that one wonders how they ever allowed themselves to fall for such a trick. In a way, you almost feel foolish for not figuring this out on your own. It's very eye-opening.

I try to make it as plain as I can, but it's not easy to see through the trick when you're caught up in it. When I go to do something I fear, like walking across the Golden Gate Bridge, I get tricked like everyone else!
