This cake recipe shows how to make fairy cakes. More information on this fairy cake recipe can be found at

The ingredients required for making 12-15 of these fairy cakes are as follows:

135g self-raising flour
120g caster sugar
120g soft margarine
2 eggs (large)
A few drops vanilla extract
Water icing (optional)
Cake decorations (optional)

If you are going to sprinkle 100s and 1000s, do this before the water icing sets. You could use a few witches or ghostly faces for Halloween. You could of course leave them plain.

To create butterfly cakes, slice off the top of the bun and then cut the tops in half. Pipe some buttercream on top and add the pieces of bun to form wings. See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wbjKaTgU4I4 for more information on buttercream.

Making such cakes is a great time to get children into the kitchen -- just be careful with th hot oven and electric whisk.
