@noskcajluap thats not the slowest we march if you ever get a chance to see the garter service we have to march in jack boots (the big tall boots we wear mounted and only ever wear dismounted for the garter) they are very hard to march in so the pace gets slower!
Their pace is not at all slow. At approx 104 per minute I believe it is perfect, and much better suited to marching than the 120 that some Amercian bands use (and I'm a proud American!) Listen and look at this fine band playing the great American march "Washington Greys" which starts at 2:08.
When they are turning into Windsor Castle or any protected citadel, the command "in-the escorts is given and the same two troopers double-time in a circle to return to their original places in the rear.
I learned that also from emptyangel.
The acolytes carrying processional candles in our procession at Church don't understand when I say "Out-the escorts" when outdoor processions exit the door of the Church .:)
They're supposed to do that upon the command "Out the Escorts!", where they then run up and get alongside the Colour and the Ensign who carries it, in this case the officer.
This is to provide close quarter protection for the Colour.
do the spurs make marching any harder?
