  • In my opinion this is one of the most beautiful performances in history of piano playing.

  • Harold C. Schonberg wrote in his NY Times obituary of Mme. Novaes (7.March 1979):"The sheer beauty of her playing managed to transcend any other considerations;it was it's own reward. There may have been more monumental pianists, more intellectual pianists, but it is hard to think of a pianist whose playing gave as much sheer pleasure as that of Guiomar Novaes." I think that sums it up nicely. In my opinion, the greatest pianist ever.

  • She was one of the greatest of the greats...thanks for this treasurable sample of her incomparable playing!

  • Guiomar..mon amour!

  • @lovesGenet She was filmed. I have a little film were she speak about the Chopin' s valse. But a man, in Brazil, have some films of Guiomar playing withe sound...

  • She's so underknown. Gorgeous!!! Bechstein? I bet. Anybody?

  • it's sad if she was never filmed she was certainly a natural treasure. This Strauss lied is so beautiful had never heard it until years ago Freire unbelievable fluid rec was made known to me .Novaes had CHARM and every note golden and speaking

  • Yes, Novaes's Bercuese is unsurpassed. Her music is unbearably beautiful.

  • I agree assindiastignani, Novaes is the best ever, a miracle of sound.

  • Good question.

  • most moving piano playing ever

  • I think of the late Harold Schonberg who wrote of "Novaes of the velvet paws, whose hands, like Hofmann's, seemed welded to the keyboard". Somehow it seemed, when Novaes played, pianist and instrument were one....she had a sound and such a natural approach to the piano, the like of which we will never see again.
