My tonechasing now has some results. I tried to find a good 70's-80's-type British distortion tone and I finally got a semi-decent soundcheck video. I used the Carl Martin Plexitone boosted with T-Rex MAB overdrive to a clean Marshall DSL 100 amp. The cab is a Framus Cobra 4x12 with Celestion Greenback speakers. In the first clip the master volume is at about three. In the next clips I move to a different room and the master volume is set at 5-6.

The guitar is a MIJ Fender Stratocaster with a scalloped maple fretboard. The bridge pickup is a Dimarzio Super Distortion S and the neck pickup is a Dimarzio Air Norton S. The guitar has a 3-way pickup selector. The middle position activates both pickups. The singlecoil in the middle is disconnected.

The guitar is tuned to Eb and I use Dunlop titanium coated strings. (09-46)
The picks are Dunlop stainless steel ones.

Nearly all of this video is just improvised. I bet you can tell, since it's pretty repetitive. The riffs I play at 5 minutes are from my own songs.
