2 Peter 1:13 NKJ
Yes, I think it is right, as long as I am in this tent, to stir you up by reminding you

Observation:
Interesting terminology used here and an important principle.

Peter spoke of being in his tent. He had become so conscious of the fact that he was a spirit with a soul who lived in a body that he referred to his body as a tent. A tent is the ultimate in temporary dwelling places. If you live in a tent today here in America you would be considered homeless. But for Peter he knew that his body was a temporary dwelling place that he would soon leave.

When he spoke of stirring up the people, he was not doing it with hype but rather with a reminder. These people knew the truths Peter was sharing but had allowed them to go dormant in their lives. By reminding them Peter was helping them rekindle the life changing deposits that had been implanted in them.

Application:
This is a really great perspective to have regarding our makeup as individuals. We are not a body, we are a spirit with a soul and the most temporary part of us is our bodies. That is certainly not the emphasis of the world around us. They are body first or at least mind/body. But we are spiritual beings living in a temporary dwelling.

And we constantly have to stir up the things we have learned by reminding ourselves. That gives church, daily devotions and good Christian fellowship a far greater role of importance. As we hear and read and share we are reminded of the things God has placed in our hearts. We will not receive much stirring up from the world around us because they are pretty much unaware of God. If we follow their path God and His great truths become faint and seem so distant. But thank God we can stir ourselves up by reminding ourselves and just stay stirred, or excited, until we leave our tent.

Prayer:
Thank You Lord that one day we will leave this tent and someday get a brand new one that does not break down. Thank You for reminding us to stir ourselves up by Your word, Your spirit, Your church and Your people. I want to be stirred not shaken or dormant until the day I leave this tent behind. Amen
