Who gives more money to politics, unions or corporations? Labor Notes Mark Brenner was on hand Friday October 22 to spar with Fox News' Neil Cavuto about the issue. Cavuto was upset that the New York Times ran a front page story that day about corporate giving, but made no mention of AFSCME's substantial political contributions. Of course the Wall Street Journal had a front page story about AFSCME's political giving that same day, so Cavuto can't be too upset about lack of media attention. Prior to Brenner he gave Steve Forbes free rein to share his thoughts on the mid-term elections and what might happen if Republican's retake the House or the Senate or both.
The problem with Neil's argument is that it's illegal for unions to use members' money for political campaigns. The dues Neil references are voluntary dues designed for political endeavors that AFSCME believes will support their members. I know this because I voluntarily pay those dues as an AFSCME member.

Why didn't this Labor Notes guy use this oportunity to expose the fact that our whole rotten, sick & dying capitalist/imperialist system is going down the tubes? Why should the majority of the worlds population who produces all the wealth leave the political power in the hands of a small minority who's bottom line is nothing more than creating a profit?
