I love all Weir's films made in Australia, I particually like picnic at hanging rock. This has similar themes, really like it.

One of Chamberlain's best performances. The movie is very subtle and original. I saw it at least 50 times already

"Pippin...": Totally agree; I love the haunting, ominous mood it creates.

This movie has a special, evocative atmosphere all its own and an environmental message years ahead of its time. It's so worth seeing, as one would expect from Peter Weir's films.

Environmental messages were very common in the '70s actually. In The Last Wave the message is not only "environmental" however. It's even more the erasure, not only of our original landscapes, but of the people who lived there, and the repression of collective memory that must take its place in our minds so this global project of civilisation can continue. It's deeper, more subversive than just a climate allegory- you see the hero's individualism dying. A song fits Last Wave well (see my video).
