I am a former US Marine and I was part of 1st MEF that went to Mogadishu when this happened. It was a humanitarian mission that went to shit because the mission changed mid-stream. Plain and Simple. You cannot win combat scenarios when this happens. Iraq is the same deal today on a larger scale, but with more severe variables involved thus making it a more dire situation. I encourage all of you to read some books on this subject matter if you have not done so.

There were 300,000 people who died before the Marines were sent. the warlords would steal the food from the aid organizations. The United States Marines were nessasary to see to it that the starving people got feed. My uncle once saw us aid sold on the docks to the highest bidder in the philapines in the early 70s. This was December of 1992 BHD didnt take place for another ten months,Operation Restore Hope 'Dec 92 - Jun 93' was the Marines mission to somalia,Your thinking of Operation Gothic Serpent the Rangers mission from 'Aug 93 - Oct 93.
