For many people, this MMS lp was their first acquaintance with Vlado Perlemuter.
At that time, he did not reached the status he would receive after his 1976 Nimbus
Ravel recordings. This Chopin LP demonstrates his aristocratic playing style, and
one wonders why he wasn't picked up by larger record companies in the 50's
and 60's

For three years I have a website, where I post "out-of-copyright" (in the Netherlands)
classical lp's and 78rpm's. It is updated every Friday:

  • I agree. I think the age of great Chopin pianists is past.. Sorry Lang-Lang

  • This is really marvelous playing, sane and balanced. Mr. Perlemuter refuses to accentuate the bombast. It's nice to hear this scherzo played in such a way as to bring out the wit as well as the passion. Very lovely, and in the best possible sense, a simple rendering of this great work.

  • @schubert06 Every Chopin piece he recorded is the best rendition there is...

  • You are right. This was my first acquaintance with Perlemuter! My grandmother had this LP and I think even today, it has one of the best recordings of the Ballade Op 38 and Tarantelle that exist.

  • @GILL999SMITH Ok for Lang Lang. But what about Blechacz, Yundi Li etc. ?

  • I had this album. i don't suppose you could put the second ballade that's on it up?

  • My father had a master class with Perlemuter. He has fond memories of it.

  • i agree hes fantastic so under rated.

  • What a Fantasic Pianist! i never heard about him before but i went to a cd store today to buy some ravel piano music and had a choice between at least 8 interprets. i listened to all just with one piece. and of course i bought his cd. it is so natural and beautiful. now i try to find everything he played and hanging on youtube...
