Surely you've heard the expression that you "catch more flies with sugar than you do with vinegar." And while you, like I, have wondered why, exactly, you'd want to be attracting flies in the first place, the lesson is simple: Being nice to other people will get you further in life than being mean. This especially holds true when you're trying to deal positively with customer service representatives (and fly-covered hobos. There we go with the flies, again). Besides being an absolute sweetheart, how can you make sure you get great customer service?

Excellent Chris I love it... I know so many companies out there have no idea what is happening to them in social media...and the ones that respond are going to be the trend setters for the next round.

Impressed. I saw the video about the comparison of ipad - kindle fire and you seemed really a freak show. But here...man you say some really wise things, I myself experienced those. Congratulations for understanding them, they have a lot of value, I hope this video will be watched by tons of people and interpreted the right way (maybe not everyone is ready to understand what you explain). Keep on man, well done!

I have never approached customer service in a negative manner, but I ALWAYS have to redo everything I troubleshoot just for "liability" reasons. So most of the time i just tell them what I've already done and I've actually had a couple people thank me. Might be worth trying as well.

This doesn't work when you're calling a customer service representative in India.
