  • And to add something to what the other two Melvins have said: Nike missiles were for air defense, they didn't contain nukes.

  • @leiefilm Nike originated in Greek mythology and is the goddess of victory. Your nike tennis shoe people got it from that. Also, the U.S. military in the late 40's 50's and 60's had a thing for naming various weapon systems after mythological figures. ei; Thor, Titan, Nike, Zeus, Jupiter, Ajax, Polaris.
