It never ceases to amaze and entertain me how incredibly and undeniably popular such a minor character like Matt became in the series with characters like L. Because of this, I see the guy like the Boba Fett of the Death Note series; little to NOTHING is known about the guy yet there is a certain cool factor to him that's impossible to deny. XD, just goes to show no anime character is safe XDXDXD

Same thing happened to me. Turns out, in the Anime, he stabbed himself with the pen he used to write the names down. In the manga, he dies in prison and you don't see it.
