@zzzpr0t4g0n1stzzz Clearly Madison disagrees with your interpretation, as does Merriam-Webster and the rest of human civilization.
However, this being a free country, you are free to continue believing whatever your heart desires.

Out of discussion previously I was left with the impression that it was a country governed by one law for all people.
So I looked up the definition and I was totally off.
Merriam's 1 b) does use a similar definition to protagon.
Funny enough many nations with republic in the name don't qualify to protagon or some of the more specific definitions of republic as the small number aren't elected by the rest.

Great description of the two. I would like to add to your thoughts. I would say that it is a mutual partnership between the two. Right leaning and some leftist politicians use corporate money to get elected and then protect that corporation. But unions also have huge influence over leftist politicians. At any rate, they both use their power to redistribute wealth from other corporations, entrepreneurs and the wealthy and.... and the middle class, to the welfare state. It is a vicious cycle.

@zzzpr0t4g0n1stzzz see federalist paper number 10:
"The two great points of difference between a democracy and a republic are: first, the delegation of the government, in the latter, to a small number of citizens elected by the rest; secondly, the greater number of citizens, and greater sphere of country, over which the latter may be extended."
So yeah, you are the dumb ass.
