  • actualy after 4. ...d5, 5. exd5 Nxd5, the Knight-Move is a blunder anyway, because...

    6. Nf7 Kxf7, 7. Qf3+ Ke8, Bxd5... black lost a pawn and chance to castle, white threats still mate and dxc6 for isolated double pawns, if black blocks Qf3+ with queen it's not getting better anyway

  • @AnotherChessPlayer You are refering to the fried liver attack, Black will play Ke6 after Qf3 to protect the Knight, which has shown to be hard to defend for Black in over the board games aöthough computers claim that Black is fine meaning that the postion is equal. So some White players choose the alternative move 6.d4.

  • @Vonzi0000

    In fact Nxd5 is a blunder, because after Nxf7 Kxf7, black will lose in all variations, white just have to do the right moves.

    White will go on with forced moves:

    7.Qd3+ Ke7 8.Nc3 Ncb4 (Nce7 will turn out very bad for black) 9.Bb3 c6 10. a3 Na6 11. Ncxd5 cxd5 12. d4 exd4 13. O-O Kd6 14. Rd1 Kc6 15. Rxd4...

    Black has two choices Nc7 or Be7, Nc7 -> a forced combo black loses, so 15. ..Be6 16.Bf4.. any move of black loses in end ...Nc5 is best here

  • @AnotherChessPlayer Alright if you really want to get into a theoretical debate, then give me an improvement on these lines with 12... Be7 as a suggestion for an improvement by Black:

    1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4 Nf6 4.Ng5 d5 5.exd5 Nxd5 6.Nxf7 Kxf7

    7.Qf3+ Ke6 8.Nc3 Nb4 9.Bb3 c6 10.a3 Na6 11.Nxd5 cxd5 12.d4 Be7

    13.Qg4+ (13.O-O Rf8 14.Qe2 Kf7 15.Qxe5 Kg8 16.Bxd5+ Kh8{The position is equal}) 13. ... Kd6

    14.dxe5+ Kc6 15.Qxg7 Be6 16.O-O Nc5 17.Ba2 Rg8 {Black is slightly better}

  • after Qf3+ black should play Nf6 blocking the check

  • that loses the queen to Bxe6+

  • it would seem that the Pawn capture succeeds in putting Black permanently a tempo behind.

    Why so much trouble?

    The book line does give White a single Pawn, it's true, however, the opening of Black's Queen side appears to be a formidable barrier for White to defend against.

    Or the Fritz or Ulevstad (sp?) defences...while both are... somewhat "speculative", it seems a good way to shake out some excitement in the game and keep abreast of White aggressively.

    maybe.

    d=^))

  • didnt know there was theories and stuff ...

  • @Vonzi0000 after 12... Be7, my engine also gives an advantage to black.

    Well.

    13.Qg4+ Kd6 14.dxe5+ Kc6 15. Qxg7

    winning two pawns and isolating black's d-file pawn

    Castling after Be7 will give black a breath to come back into the game, in my opinion a fault at this stage.

    Now white got a strong kingside with a nice placed Queen and black's pieces still hanging.Black needs to dodge exchanges.

    In endgame engine gives white a slight advantage.
