World's Largest Ball Rolls Over To Museum

Imagine a game of catch with a rubber band ball that is over 6-feet tall and weighs 4 and 1/2 tons.

The world's largest ball is so big that a team from Ripley's Believe or Not Museum needed a crane to haul it away on a flatbed truck to its new home at the museum in Orlando, Florida.

The monstrously big ball, measuring 6-feet-7-inches and weighin 9,032 pounds, was created by Florida resident Joel Waul who spent six years wrapping and linking rubber bands of various sizes before it was declared the world's largest rubber band ball by the Guiness Book of World Records in 2008.

Joel Waul, owner of the giant rubber band ball:says;
" It's a little bit sad to see it go, but you know, it's going to be appreciated by thousands and hopefully (m) millions of people in Ripley's Museums to see, and wonder, 'What was this guy thinking? What was he doing.'"

Waul got the idea for his creation when he saw a Ripley's television special that showed the then-largest rubber band ball being dropped into the desert from an airplane.

The idea of setting a world record always appealed to Waul; he recalls that as a seven-year-old in Jamaica he read his father's Guinness Book of World Records.

The huge ball caused a few casualties along the way to the world record. At 400 pounds it rolled over his hand and sprained it and on another occasion it rolled over his big toe.
