Marie-Antoinette : De la Couronne à la Mort

L'histoire :

Marie-Antoinette, reine de France, arrive dans le royaume de Louis XV à l'âge de 14 ans. Elle n'était qu'un pion sur le grand échiquier politique et représentait la réconciliation entre la France et l'Autriche grâce à son mariage avec le dauphin, le futur Louis XVI. Délaissée par son mari et étouffée par les contraintes de l'étiquette, Marie-Antoinette essaie de s'éloigner de ce monde d'apparence qu'elle n'a jamais désiré, en s'évadant dans l'ivresse de la fête, ce qui fera bien des jaloux à Versailles. Y a-t-il un prix à payer de la cherche du bonheur que certains vous refusent ?

Not quite. She was ended because she was perceived by the people to be responsible for the staggering debt France had accumulated over the years. She was part of the problem, but most of that debt was incurred during the American Revolution. The nobility and the Catholic church were not and refused to pay taxes so the people turned on her as a symbol for the poor condition France was in at the time. This should serve as a warning for US banksters on Wall Street. Guillotine in Central Park?

@AleksandrBarislav The Affair of the Necklace contributed hugely to depict her as an excessively selfish ruler, even if she was absolutely innocent. But her disregard for the people of France or the principles of the Revolution (due to her total ignorance of the conditions they lived in) and her obvious Austrian sympathies (one of the only things she was accurately accused of) didn't help at all to make her seem more worthy of indulgence to the eyes of the French.

@AleksandrBarislav The seclusion of Versailles from the "real" world and the monotony and pressure of her daily life (demanding mother, plotting aunts, dull husband, strict rules) led her to a life of frivolity and caprices. Furthermore, she was too young by far to assume a mature political and symbolic position. Her light-hearted behavior and her periodical expenses were highly exaggerated by her detractors (most of whom were old courtiers who felt neglected by her).

@AleksandrBarislav However, the Revolutionary Tribunal accused her without any concrete proof (besides defamatory pamphlets and other incoherent arguments), even suggesting that she was guilty of incest, which was absolutely false and utterly ridiculous. She became a scapesgoat to the people of France, because she was never truly exposed to the demands and needs of the majority of the population (called the Third State).

@AleksandrBarislav Actually, not the only reason. She had a terrible reputation for the people of the kingdom, which was partly her fault. By executing the king and the Capet widow (they were obviously trialed and put to death after the abolition of monarchy, so that's how she was officially called since then), the revolutionaries showed the whole continent that the Revolution knew no bounds, trying to erradicate any possibility of a comeback to the Ancien Régime.

Martyr de la Terreur et des révolutionnaires, tout comme son fils, sa belle-sœur, sa meilleure amie, ainsi que des centaines d'autres personnes qui n'avaient pour seul défaut d'être nées dans une famille dite "noble", à une époque où il ne valait mieux pas l'être. Marie-Antoinette à certes commis des erreurs, notamment au moment de la révolution, mais elle en a commis bien moins que beaucoup d'autres personnes, qui ne sont pas pour autant inquiétés, même encore aujourd'hui.
