an american and a russian general are meeting up on their submarines on the surface. the u.s. general: "our new submarine is able to stay about 5 months under the surface", the russian general: "our submarine is able to stay about a year under the surface"... while talking, there's coming a third submarine to the surface: "heil hitler! where's the next fuel station?"

Can dive to 787 feet. Is that all? The Titanic lays at 13,000 feet. The deepest depth is 36,000 feet.

Size is not an advantage for a submarine. It is a disadvantage. The larger you are, the easier it is for you to be detected for example by sonar. So boasting about the size of the submarine is.. not very smart.

Certainly there is a need for this sub class as part of the Triad defense. Given that most countries (friend and foe) still have most of the thermonuclear assets they had in the cold war. But putting it near the coast of an enemy (ie. concealed) is taking a giant risk as it could be detected (even accidentally). There are other equally good detection abilities that the US military has.
