Wallington Park Equestrian Center's freshman's show jumping.
My friend Jess was kind enough to float Teddy up for the day :)
He hadn't been ridden for a week before this, he was lame with mud fever. Please no crit saying he was going too fast, I let him choose his own pace instead of fighting with him, and it worked really well. He didn't touch a rail ;) He was having the best time! He loooved it!!!
We went clear 1m (3ft3).
It was a training day type of thing, so no placings ;)

  • good job but i disagree with you on the fact that you should let them choose their own pace. i was riding in a show once and i decided to give her her head and let her work it out because it was higher than usual and she went lame from going too fast and then not being able to refuse or run out on a jump at was too big for her at the end (puissance) just saying though.

I guess it depends on how fast the horse actually wants to go. Teddy was going at a pretty fast speed, but it wasn't dangerous & I was still in control. It sounds as though your horses was much too fast, seeing as she went lame because of it.

So letting them pick their own pace isn't a bad thing, but you still need to make sure the horse isn't going to hurt itself.

  • how much was that horse

Cheap, I bought him unbroken. And judging by your name, you may be interested to know that he's an australian stock horse :)

  • Yet again brilliant. Yes Teddy was going fast but he wasnt flat out and he kept himself balanced and even. good riding and I love the way he is so eager to jump!

  • i love australian stock horses theyre so cool!! i have a nz stationbred x quarter horse and shes the best when shes not refusing :)

  • Yes the horse is going quite fast, but the rider is clearly in control, follows the movement very nicely and the horse takes off on a good stride every time. A nice fluid round - I like it :)

  • @Mainehorse She lives in Australia. Victoria I think.

  • @Mainehorse

Actually I take that back, I'd of said Australia?

  • @Mainehorse

Lol you thought this was England? I'd of said the accents were more american and the scenery is the least English thing I've ever seen :P

  • Thats a good idea to let him go his own pace, i need to try that with my pony! the only problem is that she refuses constantly...

  • I agree with perfectstorm, his jump is really smooth :) lovely horse :)

  • he has a really smoth jump
