Lyrics:

What a drag it is getting old
Kids are different today,
I hear evry mother say
Mother needs something today to calm her down
And though shes not really ill
Theres a little yellow pill
She goes running for the shelter of a mothers little helper
And it helps her on her way, gets her through her busy day

Things are different today,
I hear evry mother say
Cooking fresh food for a husbands just a drag
So she buys an instant cake and she burns her frozen steak
And goes running for the shelter of a mothers little helper
And two help her on her way, get her through her busy day

Doctor please, some more of these
Outside the door, she took four more
What a drag it is getting old

Men just arent the same today
I hear evry mother say
They just dont appreciate that you get tired
Theyre so hard to satisfy, you can tranquilize your mind
So go running for the shelter of a mothers little helper
And four help you through the night, help to minimize your plight

Doctor please, some more of these
Outside the door, she took four more
What a drag it is getting old

Lifes just much too hard today,

I hear evry mother say
The pusuit of happiness just seems a bore
And if you take more of those, you will get an overdose
No more running for the shelter of a mothers little helper
They just helped you on your way, through your busy dying day

My ultimate favorite song when i was little. Didn't really understand the lyrics and that it was about drugs.. And wanted to show it to show and tell Hahaha you could only imagine my dads reaction.

why do both of you guys care so much about when the drugs were out and the drug it was referring to. its a song, theyre great lyrics and just enjoy it, you dont need to analyze everything to the bone of the history of the song

I don't know about Europe, but in USA phenobarb is usually only given for seizures and a few other barbs for post-operative anethesia, sedatives tranquilzers for short-term insomnia (usually only in a hospital) as an alternative to mainstream benzos and sometimes butalbital for migraine headaches. I used to take them by Rx and they give you a nice relaxed feeling then usually make you drowsy. I never got addicted and thought they were safe.

How old are you? And where on earth have you lived for the last 100 years? Rolling Stones is a Brittish band, the song was recorded in '65, 2 years after Valium was put on sale - and it wasn't until late 60's it gained large popularity in UK, I doubt they (UK) even had approved it for sale in '65....

So '65... Valium was 2 years old then, not 3 like I counted from the release year '66. The whole internet seems to support the Nembutal claim but so many here claim Valium that I'd like to see just one provide any kind of link - if they are right I'm willing to educate myself, but as of now it seems the evidence is against them and they just throw the claim and accuse people for believing everything in WikiPedia. So far not much credibility for the Valium proponents :)

Try searching the web, there are a lot of sources for the Nembutal claim and while wikipedia is among them you are the only one who mentioned it.

However I didn't find *any* article supporting the valium claim, so because so many just throw this claim around here I would love for someone with obvious knowledge to provide a source.

Seriously, I couldn't find one myself and while I'm leaning towards Nembutal I would rather be right about it, so maybe you could provide a link?
