He's still fantastic... If you'd seen him live in the last 3 years, you'd know he's been writing plenty, and still plays like a gypsy. botti is a good player when he wants to be but he makes to much money playing commercial smooth jazz, which has its place (sell out)

Botti CAN play ... does have technique ... Can he improvise (without some focused rehearsal - including where he's going to stand on stage and who he's going to smile at at the end of bar 16 - I don't think so. That's the ability we are hearing now Harrell ... Chet and a score of other greats who were 'into' creating the music instantaneously. Well, for me that is the true jazz ... but those big concerts and big name features Botti offers are also great - in their way.
