This is a video response to Pat saylor's 41 pullups.

It is the concern of many as to whether the "swinging" (worm like motion) adopted by Pat help him do many many more pullups. The answer is YES.

In this video you can observe the first 6 pullups. Notice I use an acceptable swing towards the BACK which does not make it easier at all. Just look at how my arm flexes and you can tell the amount of energy I am using from my arms.

After the first 6, I use the swing Pat used, swinging towards the front. Notice how my speed increases tremendously, and how it becomes so much more effortless. I am hardly using my arm strength.

The number of standard, non swinging pullups I can do is 38. With this swing, I can easily do past twice the amount. In fact if you use such a swing, you can do as many as you want until your blisters shout at you to stop. This is simply because you're hardly using your arms!!

Finally, to those who think that pullups are not meant for people with long arms and legs, do not be discouraged. I think I have relatively long arms and legs (not short and stumpy) and yet I can do a reasonable amount of pullups.

  • I guess you already know this. But for people who think this is a good way to workout: In this style of Pull-Ups, you won't gain much muscle, if anything at all. All you get is your heart to pump faster, and the risk of hurting your joints. All tho, It's an excellent display! Looks like alot of fun there! No offence mate, but just had to write this down. Again, No offence! :-)
