  • I've got an old lp of Gabi and the boys doing this song and a number of other songs and chants with Ry Cooder from back in the late 70's or early 80's...bought it in the PX at Pearl, man I miss the islands...we have a song here called "My Island Home", its about the islands north of Darwin, but it reminds me of Hawaii, I'm homesick for Makaha Beach and the Fog Cutter

  • I love this song...it's always in style! Yeah, Pops Gabby Pahinui jammin'...may he rest in peace!

  • I first heard this while looking at the west emerald mountains of Maui from a small house half way up the crater. It was an old LP and headset. I was helping out a friend. Wow. What a tune.

  • Gabby can also be heard on one side of the amazing Chicken Skin Music lp/cd with Ry Cooder. The equally amazing Tex/Mex accordion player Flaco Jimenez is on th other side. Great collection of songs also. To my ear best heard on LP.

  • Ry Cooder truly adds an accent that is unique

  • Ohhhhhh....love this! Back in the day we were lucky to be blessed with music like this and the amazing talents of so very many musician's like Gabby. Miss this kine music. Hawaii still is the birthplace for an abundance of talent and music, yet, we hold onto this music that just flows with the soul of the islands.. Mahalo GrandMasterGuess!

  • Carlos Andrade wrote this song.

  • Such an incredible memory. Peace to this incredible man.

  • Reminds me when I lived in Hawaii Kaneohe side. Great song.

  • God Bless Gabi.

  • My mom lived and worked at the Hotel Hana Ranch on Maui in the 60s and 70s, before I was born. This was one of her favorite albums and this one of her favorite songs. She's gone now, but every time I hear this song I think of her.
