This fifth volume features Gilels in performances of two cornerstones of the piano literature: Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1 in B-flat minor and Schumann's Piano Concerto in A minor. In addition, Gilels plays Schumann's solo piano work "Arabesque" as an encore. These live performances (1966 / 1976) are with the USSR State Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Vladimir Verbitsky. 79 minutes, Color / black & white, All regions.

  • @vonMohl Gilels was a Jew from Odessa in Ukraine. Richter was half-German, also from Odessa. While both studied at Moscow Conservatory, their professor was Heinrich Neuhaus, a German. Hardly Russians, let alone full blooded.

  • Gilels is one of my favorite players. Greatly admired, along with Richter. Individualists. Russians, full blooded.
