@vonMohl Gilels was a Jew from Odessa in Ukraine. Richter was half-German, also from Odessa. While both studied at Moscow Conservatory, their professor was Heinrich Neuhaus, a German. Hardly Russians, let alone full blooded.

Gilels is one of my favorite players. Greatly admired, along with Richter. Individualists. Russians, full blooded.
