What a great series :)

Actually I don't know where those spectrum images come from - I don't think they are from Humason - who published all in black and white. They don't match any Humason figures I've seen published - mainly in the two papers that show the calcium absorption lines - but I haven't done a full search - but in scholar.google.com I didn't see any other papers aside from 2 dealing with the red shift - which I think is probably from the Bragg-Schuster equation effect.

Apparently they "colorized" Humason's classic 1930s spectrum photo.
-
notice "spectrum shifts to the red" not "calcium absorption lines shift to the red"

WE LOVE YOU CARL!

Yay for my ancestor :)

Feel like I'm 8 years old again watching this! Sagans voice could make the phone book sound awe inspiring.

What a bunch of admirable human beings! My salute!

You are the daddy carl.
Thanks for posting this! I wrote a musical about Humason and this helps me easily explain the premise.
Of course I have paid full price for the DVD set, so all is well ;-)

And it is well worth the price. Please buy the Cosmos DVD set. If you don't want to buy it, it is available for free rental at most public libraries. Thank you for your interest.
