Mainly a slideshow (some video), with members of SilverBridge Kayak Club in the 50th Liffey Descent.
Including myself and my fellow shipmates, aboard the 3 man canadian 'Titanic'.
Having launched onto the river, we paddled upstream for 20 minutes to a spot beyond the start line and awaited the start of the race, for our class of craft. Several paddlers fell foul of this section and that was before the call for the race start. It's a fairly tough paddle upriver, with few eddies and hundreds of paddlers to negotiate - every man (person) for him (her)self!
This year, over 1000 people in 721 boats entered the race and there were 65 non finishers - unfortunately we were part of that last statistic.
Shortly after negotiating numerous vikings, indians and other pirates and then sliding over Straffan weir, we must've hit an iceberg, the hull opened up and we got 'that sinking feeling'.
Using the tools of the trade (some duct tape and a traffic cone) we effected a repair, which was only good enough to get us to the safety of the river bank and the end of our race.
On a good note, we raised several hundred yoyos, for our chosen charity
and we'll be slightly more wiser for next year!!
Salamanca, by the Dubliners - good stuff isn't it?

Nice video and well done to all at SBKC on the descent. Can you tell me what the banjo track is in the middle section?
