@orionbassmaster I don't know for sure. Nakamura Ha IS mentioned in a well know book about koryu. But Nakamura himself never could get officially made the successor of the original Takeda Ryu due to the sudden death of the last grand master. There are schools like the Kobilza Ha. Those were students of Nakamura, who parted ways after only ~15y of training. I would stay away from those.
But from what I can see in videos TRNH itself is good. I will visit one soon myself. Tell me your story then.

@orionbassmaster Well, Aikido comes from Daitoryu Aikijutsu, which is a branch of the Takeda Ryu system. Takeda Ryu also involved Jukempo (ooold Southern Chinese Kempo+koryu).
In Daitoryu the emphasis was on Aikijutsu. Later allot of the swordplay from Onoha Itto Ryu was added and in all it was "softer" than the old AikiJ.
Ueshiba then became softer and softer due to Shinto influence.
Most of his students were already good budokas and trained allot together. Today striking is often forgotten.

@Weston1968 unsure of aikido , but many traditional koryu jujustu systems do teach a variety of atemi strickes for instant the hontai ryu , and hakko ryu as well as the variouse forms of the yagyu ryha taijutsu involves effective striking methods with fists, elbows and as well the finger tips and toes in some rare cases, however jujustu as far as i know and learned is orginal designed to tackle enemies wearing a samurai armour hence it involves more takedowns and grappling ^^

@SynS7ven this is in my opinion a big problem of today's aikido. the average aikidoka has never learned how to throw a good punch or kick, and for this reason there are a lot of aikidokas who never learn what a real, serious attack feels like.

@SynS7ven In answer to your comment. Most Aikido & even traditional Ju-Jitsu clubs don't teach quality striking techniques even though it is vital as part of developing a solid defence. In other words! Your defence is only as good as the attack you are used to receiving. One good art worth learning if you can find the right club is Wado Ryu as this combines a high level of both striking & throwing techniques.
