This video was shot on the beautiful St. Croix River. We were actually smallmouth fishing when a large pike or muskie kept attacking our popper. Because we always carry multi-species tackle to be ready to switch gears at any time, we picked up a muskie rod and made a few casts with a Viper jerkbait. Watch as what turned out to be a 15-pound class pike tries to eat the lure three times in two casts including one last attempt at boat side which showers the camera. Very cool video.

  • Thats awesome!! would have been better if you hooked them.. :L

  • I like throwing large poppers that walk the dog, similar to a Chug Bug. I miss alot of fish and thats part of the game. Just have to remember when the fish hits, drop your rod and wait a second before setting the hook. If you do so, you have better hook-ups. also if they miss it, and you pause you don't accidentally pull it out of the strike zone. It took me a while to get that down, but you still can't catch EVERY fish. Good Fishing!

  • Very cool, thanks for posting

  • learn to hook a fish

  • did you attached any hook to those lure?

  • Beautiful pike :D

  • dude how did you not catch that thing. how pissed were you?

  • wht lour is tht

  • no hooks? just for show

  • @666bio666 a pike can fit another pike of equal size in its mouth, that lure was the right size for that monster

  • Went to my fishing spot the other day and i could see pike topwater feeding on bugs and stuff but they just didn't seem to want and hit the topwater ?

  • What are you using for a softy? Is it the Yum Money? I do a ton of smallie fishing and would like to know. Thanks!!

  • Is this the St. Croix River between Minnesota and Wisconsin?

  • yum money hound?

  • top water.. how bout out of the water? haha this sounds insane but get this we fish the mississippi for northerns an d my dad set down his rod and his spinnerbait was like 4 5 inches out of the water and this lil like 1 pound northern pulls a kamikaze and jumps up out of the water and grabs it! must've been hungry!!

  • I think you need a bit smaller lure then he could really eat it.

@ DaRedBomber I like the figure 8 bit it scares the crap out of me well they just explode on it right in your face.

  • Great vid man, gotta love topwater. Don't forget the figure 8 next time. I really push that move on my clients, you'd be surprised how often they attack within feet of the boat. Atleast you got to watch it come out the water, nuthin better than that
