From a 2002 Mitsubishi Galant left in a garage over the winter and then driven in the summer. There I was, wondering why it sounded like a mouse nest in my air conditioning.
Possums will build nest in under your hood. My work truck is a F-350 diesel, and thankfully I check the oil and coolant every morning before I start it. After a three day holiday weekend I opened the hood and found every open space stuffed with straw. I know that it was a possum because a coworker had found him trapped in a big plastic trashcan on our loading dock about 20 yards away just a few minutes before.
Hmm,I've seen this kind of thing before. Funny thing is,that kind of insulation isn't even in Your car,so the critters had to bring it in from somewhere else. They also like building nests in air filter housings as well,I've removed more than a few,and the urine vapors are very corrosive,to the point where in one case it damages an intake airflow meter.
something made a nest in there. have seen stuff like this before. have found mice or parts of in the blower. the most i've seen is they make a nest in the cabin air filter right on top of the blower motor.
I just pulled mine today and found the same thing! Most likely insulation and part animal nest. I cleaned this out and sucked my heating coil and plenum clean. Now I am back to normal. Mine was quite a bitch getting out. Had to loosen some additional A/C components and the battery hold down box but she is back up and running. This was on a 1999 Ford E-150 Custom Van.
