This is a John Fahey piece I found the tab for on the Internet. I played it in Open D; I think Fahey played it a whole step lower, but I got too much string buzz when I tried it. I played this through my old Fender tube amp to get some reverb.

  • Superb effort Stonewart. John Fahey would be proud. Love the sound you've produced. What make is the guitar?

  • @MP60 Thanks for the comment. The guitar is a Taylor, model 815c I believe.

  • Great song! where did you find the tab at?

  • Just Google John Fahey tabs and click on the first link. YouTube doesn't allow URLs in comments, as far as I can tell.

  • I just saw Jack Rose live and you two remind my of Fahey's rhythm. Also the 'metalic' (I'm ot a musician so I dont really know how to describe it) sound you have is the closest I've heard to the Fahey recordings I know.

    Thanks for the great performance!

  • Thank you for the comment. As for the metallic sound, part of it is reverb from the amp, and I think I was also playing it through a chorus pedal, which puts a little waver in the sound.

  • Do you happen to know what speed you practice/play this song? Please and thank you!

  • Ive never heard this song played with that intro. Great now i have something to play this week! great job btw!

  • great fahey

  • Very nice! Watch for the Fahey doc coming out this fall!

  • That's a nice sound! And quite an expensive guitar me thinks...

For those who are confused about the tuning, there are actually two versions Fahey recorded; this one, done in Open D on "Fahey, Kottke, Lang" (1974) and one in Open C on "Death Chants, Breakdowns and Military Waltzes" (1963 &1967). The "Death Chants"-version seems to be the more definitive one.

    Try Ultimate-Guitar for tabs...!

  • Rocking version....love it..

  • i adore the simplicity and emotion that i can put out of the wood when i play open d, and this is a great example. Well done, brother.

  • Exceptionally Groovy!
