"Me And Mrs. Jones" was a number-one single originally performed by soul singer Billy Paul, recorded and released in 1972 on Philadelphia International Records. The single, included on the album "360 Degrees Of Billy Paul", was written by Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff. It describes an extramarital affair between a man and his lover, Mrs. Jones. The single became Paul's only number-one single on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at that position for three weeks in December 1972. "Me And Mrs. Jones" also achieved this feat on Billboard's R&B Singles chart, remaining at the number-one position for four weeks. Billy Paul (born Paul Williams, on December 1, 1934, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) is a Grammy Award-winning American soul singer. He was usually identified by his distinguishably raspy voice, developing a vocal style that would incorporate traces of jazz, R&B and pop along with soul. This channel is dedicated to all the great 'old school' R&B music I grew up with, the stuff that originally made me tap my feet and want to be a DJ. Funk, soul, disco, R&B, dance, hip-hop, rap, jazz, pop . . . 60s, 70s, 80s . . . whatever you call it, it's all 'old school' and it's all here!

  • Funny, but when this came out I was in grammar school in a small hick town mid Ohio and my English teacher was named, yep, Mrs. Jones, a typical WASP Baptist, with tightly primped hair, pointy rimmed glasses, smart as hell and would whack your knuckles until they bled in a heartbeat if you dared to act up! But I digress. To me it was the instrumentals that I loved so well, THE STRING SECTION!

flaxbvlad5150, I couldn't agree more, punks regurgitating spear-chucking slop have no clue.
