www.SLMNEWS.com 'IS SECESSION LEGAL?' Part II Here we examine the history of America - the story of how 13 separate countries joined in a loose alliance, how they then scrapped that alliance and formed a federation, how then less than 100 years later 13 of the by that point many more countries voted to leave that federation and were then invaded and occupied. It's the story of how today the central government of this federation refuses to recognise where its own powers originate. And it's the story of how today many millions of people from the numerous American countries desire for their country to again be independent of a now tyrannical and despotic central regime, long out of control.

  • I haven't even stated Law school (Constitutional Law) will be my specialty, and I could defeat this argument. You LOST the CIVIL WAR, get OVER IT. No MORE SLAVES, you HAVE to pay your Taxes. people don't HAVE to go to church. Secession is Treason!

  • @ImperatorDominus The old "Might makes right" argument. Ghengis Khan would surely applaud your reasoning.

  • @RedShirtArmy it's "Right by might" first of all. secondly the REST of the nation wants the south to be part of the U.S. and by suceeding you are using "Might" to try to take that away from the rest of us. just selfish.

  • @ChristopheMinnik Self-determination is just that, it's not others determining your future. Every people have the right to independence. Have you ever read the Declaration of Independence? According to your theory the colonies had no right to secede from the UK because the UK wanted them to remain part of the UK. Your argument is extremely anti-liberty and statist. Also, the might makes right argument is one Ghengis Khan and Adolf Hitler used. Surely you are not that authoritarian, are you?

  • @TheLampShadeGuy Secession is an inalienable right. It can not be taken away. Check out the Decl. of Independence. As for the wording of the CSA Const., it was the same wording used in the Articles of Confederation, which the States scrapped when they adopted the Constitution. It was meant to convey stability, not the supremacy of the CSA over the States - or else the Southern States would never have joined it.

  • It is true that the thirteen original colonies preceded the Federal government, so there is some legitimacy for secession arguments for those states, but what about states admitted after 1789; the Federal Congress created and admitted those states; they did not create the Federal Union.

  • the following 21 states HAVE declared sovereignty -

    Alabama , Alaska , Arkansas , Arizona , California , Colorado , Georgia , Hawaii , Idaho , Indiana , Kansas , Maine , Michigan , Missouri , Montana , New Hampshire , Nevada , Oklahoma , Pennsylvania , Texas , and Washington .

our news media is not allowed to report on this but you can get full details online . just google " 21 states declare sovereignty " and " American Secession Movement " .

  • @starreyeyed44 socialist libertarian? that makes no sense. the "left" will never allow peaceful secession and not without punishment. They live on the wealth of other people (that's all the warfare=welfare state created by lincoln really gives its citizens. Of course, they run out of other people's money. Also, deep down they like to keep the south as a scapegoat, object of vilification, defamation, etc---since it serves as example to keep their fascist subjects in line.

  • @RedShirtArmy Well, the Decl. isn't and never was a legal document, but I do agree that the right to secede is given by God.

  • @RedShirtArmy Two cowboys try to take over a lawless town in the Wild West, one's right, one's wrong, they guy with the gun makes the rules.

  • Finally, I would like to see the southern states secede peacefully; actually, all the states secede and form their own republics and alliances as they see fit. I don't want to live among the conservatives/right-wing/fundamentalists anymore and they certainly don't want me as their neighbor. Why force us to live among each other? Why create a false sense of unity where none exists? I have nothing in common with many citizens of the current U.S. even though I was born here. Let's free ourselves.

  • Furthermore, as a socialist-libertarian/anarcho-syndicalist, I would like to see the states of Washington, Oregon, and the northern counties of California secede and form its own separate republic. My vision here is that progressives, liberals, and lefties could separate from the conservatives, neo-cons, religious fundamentalists and right-wingers so that we can both live happily and pursue our own forms of government and culture. It is truly the best way since we can no longer get along.

  • I agree with this! I would love for the states to regain their rights and sovereignty. I have studied secession and recognize the value of the ideas formulated and discussed here. I primarily would like to see San Francisco and the surrounding counties secede from the United States of America and California to form its own independent city-state or join up with the Republic of Cascadia which is my favorite secessionist movement.
