@catholicexodus What you don't seem to understand is that Christ didn't just hand us a Bible. He formed a Church with His apostles, the Orthodox Church. It was the Church who decided what books would be in the Bible! And then Protestantism shaved off so many that it's just a shadow of what it used to be.

Catholic Exodus, i am a Protestant to, but i have to say that your critique of them is rather bias. For one thing there are instances in the Bible where Biblical characters go in seclusion to focus on prayer and meditation. Jesus did that when he fasted for 40 days. So im not sure why you look at the monks with so much disdain. And you talk about them having a Holier than Thou attitude, but it seems like you are by your critique

@catholicexodus Exactly. You said it. How you can not see it??? Paul was right!!!! Making the body our slave is the ultimate test to earn the Heaven! Do you think that you dominate your body?? No! The opposite is happening! You do not have to be a monk to succed this challenge of the God. But living among the devil's project, make it far beyond difficult! So, do not blame those who prefer this way of living. Also consider how Jesus lived here in earth. Our enemy is our egoism.

I also find it funny that you say that Mount Athos making someone closer to God is "absurd". Considering that MOUNTAINS, have been pivotal in connections with God...Moses received the ten on Mount Sanai. Don't be so PRESUMPTUOUS. Attempt to use MODERN conceptions of reality and you WILL stray from the true path.

The Scriptures don't evolve with NEW interpretations of the Bible. The Bible doesn't change...Only YOUR perceptions of it.
