I think the one thing that saved FM for a little while longer is when they applied the TX81z principle of having the operators be capable of other waveforms besides sine waves.
But YAMAHA didn't put it out. The V50 was only a mid step to the SY77, which put the FM right to the top, and later extended it on the SY99! Even today Yamaha provides FM expasion boards for the MOTIF series. Of course, FM has been always very complicated to program with, but has been always there
It's just a shame when Yamaha put this out, FM was finally dying out. It just didn't have much of a chance against the ROMplers of the day.
Still, I wouldn't mind having one of these. "Victory" was one of my favorite synth demos. I found that somehow you could swap the drum track with the demo song that follows it and make a "remix" of sorts. The pattern ran longer, but it was still pretty cool-sounding.
懐かしいですね!まだうちにありますよ。FDがいかれてますが・・。

Didn't the V50 and the SY77 hit at the same time?
