Monks are so busy at performing spiritual rituals for the dead, why should they be there anyway? This is a secular mourning for civic purpose. Monks are greatly needed, that is to comfort the souls, but they are not and should not be sent to do the mourning.

The person narrating this video is misinformed and completely ignorant. The monks were absent because they were locked away by the Chinese government and as for the "separatist tension," China invaded Tibet and destroyed thousands of monasteries and cultural institutions, killed countless numbers of people and forced the remaining Tibetans to sit through propaganda "education". This is genocide. Systematic destruction of a people.
