  • Yes Marcusclam - I made the handles. Some were made from ball bearings and some others (like the big one on the tailstock lever) were turned freehand on the Taig.

...I guess I haven't been keeping up with comments very well... Axbent's comments about keeping something in a spinning chuck are correct. In the video my lathe chuck has a sturdy washer held in the jaws (the large black circle in the center).

  • Awesome setup - i'd love to know where you got the handles for this setup ? did you make them ?

  • Would love to see a longer video of this lathe - perhaps a "walk around" tour with you describing the upgrades. I have read all about the lathe on your website, but a video would be fantastic. Especially would love to see how you made those nice ball handles on there!

  • Allways clamp someting in the chuck if its b4 starting!!! It ruins the chuck and can on some machines be dangerous!

  • Try steel wool and give everything a rub once with oil.

  • Interesting that you've disabled the carriage longitudinal handwheel. Is there a manual engage/disengage for it and what benefit does this give you, given it is only a pinion being pushed along a rack?

  • Nice mod to the lathe. The power feed is not standard and these lathes are around $300.

My question is how do you keep it so shiny? Mine rusted just a bit while unattended for a few months. Nothing major but damn yours is clean.

  • What motor/controller?

  • very nice machine, how much did it cost i like it alot.

  • That seems like a nice little lathe. How much did it cost? It looks like it has automatic feed capabilities, how many different thread sizes can this thing make?
