What some people don't know.

NICOLAE PAULESCU
The first person who invented insulin was a Romanian scientist named Nicolae Paulescu in the year 1916. But when four years had passed, two Canadian scientists named Banting and Macleod won a Nobel Prize for the invention of insulin. As a result of this, many disputes came about the fact that Banting was inspired from Nicolae's work. But the two Canadian scientists took the credit for Nicolae's work.
History shows that only after fifty years from Nicolae's discovery was it proved and confirmed that it was in fact Nicolae who invented insulin where everyone thought it was a Canadian invention.

Why was the insulin pump invented? The answer is simple. It was created to help those who suffer from diabetes. The Romanian scientist who invented insulin saw a problem and solved it when no-one else could. Nicolae succeeded in creating an aqueous pancreatic extract proved to have an effect on the blood sugar levels of a person suffering from diabetes. During the time of April 24 to June 23 1921, Nicolae had published four articles at the Romanian Section of the Society of Biology in Paris, all of which were describing different factors involving the effects of the new drug he created pancreine.

Eight months after Nicolae published his work, Banting and Macleod from the University Of Toronto, Canada, published their own papers on the success of pancreatic extracts for the normalizing of blood sugar levels. While Nicolae had patented has technique in his home country, there was no clinical use resulting from his work. However, the work that was published by Banting and Macleod represented the injection of insulin into a diabetic person ameliorating the symptoms of the disease where the results were satisfying.

History tells us that Banting and Macleod then received the 1923 Nobel Prize for discovering insulin. Although it seems fair to say Nicolae deserved to share in the Nobel Prize, the international recognition of Nicolae's discovery on insulin was only pronounced fifty years later. A professor by the name of Ian Murray was particularly involved in trying to correct the "historical wrong" against Nicolae. Murray was a professor of physiology and was the head of the department of Metabolic Diseases at a leading hospital in Scotland, and also he was the founding member of the International Diabetes Federation. He also stated in many articles that there was insufficient praise and recognition being given to Nicolae who at the time of the Canadian team following out their research had already been successful in extracting insulin and proving its efficacy in reducing the high blood sugar levels in diabetics.

Insulin pumps were invented to be used as a medical device which is used for the administration of insulin in the treatment of those who suffer from the diabetic disease. This is the answer to the question why was the insulin pump invented. Nicolae Paulescu was the man who invented insulin and did it for the best cause possible. Without this medication, many people would be suffering from the dire effects of having an insufficient amount of glucose in their blood streams.

PETRACHE POENARU (1799--1875)
was a Romanian inventor of the Enlightenment era.
He had studied in Paris and Vienna and, later, completed his specialized studies in England, was a mathematician, physicist, engineer, inventor, teacher and organizer of the educational system, as well as a politician, agronomist, and zootechnologist, founder of the Philharmonic Society, the Botanical Gardens and the National Museum of Antiquities in Bucharest.
While a student in Paris, Petrache Poenaru invented the world's first fountain pen, an invention for which the French Government issued a patent on May 25, 1827.
He was born in 1799 in Banesti, Vâlcea County.
