  • why do they need p42s?

  • Head end power "HEP" and dynamic braking.

  • How much effort were the Amtrak loco's making?

  • Running past me this morning It sounded like all three Amtrak P42s were just idling away letting the steamer do the work. More than likely only two of the three P42s are actually there for helper assistance, the third unit is powering the HEP for the passenger cars.

  • Awesome video. With the extreme zoom in the beginning, the tracks look pretty rickety. But on the zoom out, the tracks are fine, and the train makes pretty good speed going by.
