good video but ive been told in my corrective reading class (im in for special education and reading specialist) that phonemic awareness is the sounds of the words and no printed letters so for shirt you would have a picture of a shirt and then ask them to categorize it based on the beggining or ending sound but not have any actual print- once you add print it becomes phonics which is the 2nd essential skill of the 5 for reading. :)

The paper was just a visual example of different sounds that a single word could make up. It isn't something I would utilise when "teaching" phonemic awareness...it was merely a tool to help "describe" what it is.
