The question, "is it possible to be a human being anymore?" at first may sound like an absurd one, but if you consider his stances on the impositions that certain institutional structures have on a persons persona it makes sense.
To Laing, the definition of what it meant to be a human being were too narrowly defined and anyone who deviated from these expectations was labeled as mentally ill.
I think this was Laing's reactionary view upon the overt labeling that psychiatry used to do.

@maxim54321 It was also brave of him to have repudiated the very concrete nature of repressiveness in our culture, while, himself, being a guilty party. He apportioned much to the dysfunctional family as the source of madness, and living this out by abandoning his own family.

Laing got stuck in the world of Samsara as we all do from time to time, especially presidents. That's their job, Uncle Samsarah.

Possibly some of the most interesting, real and brave questions a man could find possible to ask.
It's from "The Trap: What Happened to Our Dream of Freedom, Part 1 : F*CK YOUR BUDDY"
