The Kubik architectonic light installation consists of water tanks that may be illuminated by dmx controlled light bulbs.

Now I got the chance to perform some experiments at the club in hamburg. The first challenge was to get the mapping from the source to the 154 dmx channels right. I built a little parser that enabled me to connect kubik to my VJ Software ES-X. Like that the output of ES-X is translated to a dmx channel and brightness list. Surprising enough this worked immediately when nI plugged in the dmx connector.

Then I could test some video source material, effects, sound control and so. I had no special material prepared for kubik resolution and order, what I would say makes it quite difficult to play precise patterns. But things are still quite dynamic and varied.

The basic insight from that night is that there is a point where it becomes hard to treat a bunch of pixels with video content that is not explicitely produced for it.
