So the only way for the building to fall on its on foot print at free fall speed would be if the bottom portion had a weight equivalent to the air you breath. Or was not there to begin with. This is all within the context of the explanation you just provided. Science frees your mind from ignorance. Intuition is very miss leading...

That still does not explain the building crumbling at free fall speed. Even if the steal beams were vaporized ( which in this case would help support your argument better...so we are basically throwing you a bone here) and so the top part was able to plummet downwards at free fall speed, the bottom portion (it is still obviously stationed on the ground) exercises a force equal two its weight (mass X Gravity) in the opposite direction which is up in this case....
